Built in the 1970s, Hotel Sudety was a crown jewel of a developing city. According to the forecasts at the time, the population of Wałbrzych was to triple in three decades. The construction of the hotel - then the largest in Lower Silesia – was to be a sign of the new times. The collapse of mining and, consequently, the city itself also led to a decline in demand for the hotel, which was finally closed in 2004. In the material done by the local television in 2019, there is information that the current owner of the hotel denies owning it, and assures that he has sold it to someone else – but it is not known to whom. The current population of Wałbrzych's inhabitants is as high as at the time of the construction of the Hotel Sudety.
